Position
MakaluMedia is seeking a user interface & interaction designer, initially for remote support, with the option for later placement either in its Spain office (Marbella) or its German office (Darmstadt).
Education
The candidate should have a university degree, or equivalent experience. The candidate shall have demonstrated a self-interest in keeping up to date with relevant web/development technologies and related social trends.
Experience
The candidate shall have at least three years of web development experience. Preferably, the candidate should have exposure to several phases of a project life-cycle, from gathering of requirements, to system design, to development, integration, testing and operations. Experience working in a process-based environment using issue tracking tools and source version control is especially attractive.
Technical Knowledge
We define two areas of of technical knowledge: design and implementation.
- User-interface & Interaction Design
The candidate should be well versed in the fundamental areas of traditional design (layout, typography, color), and extending to interaction design (usability).
The candidate should be capable of conducting exploratory work based on written functional requirements, in the form of hand sketches and/or wire frames.
The candidate should be capable of creating visual designs (screen design), and rendering those designs in XHTML/CSS, and/or Flash media.
The candidate should have expert knowledge of XHTML/CSS, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Interface implementation
Candidates which also have exposure or experience to a minimum degree in the development side are especially attractive:
- Implementation of rendered designs in Ruby on Rails “views�
- Implementation of interactivity in Flash and/or Adobe Flex
- Theme development for the Drupal CMS
- SVN or CVS version control systems
Miscellaneous
The candidate shall be able to demonstrate excellent written and spoken communication skills (in the English language).
The candidate should be capable of both working within a team context, and working alone. S/he should be capable of organizing their time effectively.
It would be attractive if the candidate has maintained a personal weblog for more than a year.
The candidate should be willing to work on a contract basis for at least a year before considering an employment relationship.
