Position
MakaluMedia is seeking a web application developer, initially for remote support, with the option for later placement either in its Spain office (Marbella) or its German office (Darmstadt).
Education
The candidate should have a university degree (preferably at the Masters level) in a technical area (preferably engineering or computer science). The candidate shall have demonstrated a self-interest in keeping up to date with relevant web/development technologies and related social trends.
Experience
The candidate shall have at least three years of web development experience. Preferably, the candidate should have experience in several phases of a project life-cycle, from gathering of requirements, to system design, to development, integration, testing and operations. Experience working in a process-based environment using issue tracking tools and source version control is especially attractive.
Technical Knowledge
The candidate shall have capabilities in most of the following technical areas:
- Ruby on Rails web application framework.
- Drupal content management system
- PHP scripting language
- XHTML/CSS
- MySQL and/or Oracle relational database systems
- The LAMP platform
- SVN or CVS version control system.
Miscellaneous
The candidate shall be able to demonstrate excellent written and spoken communication skills (in the English language).
The candidate should be capable of both working within a team context, and working alone. S/he should be capable of organizing their time effectively.
It would be attractive if the candidate has maintained a personal weblog for more than a year.
The candidate should be willing to work on a contract basis for at least a year before considering an employment relationship.
